My stay at Village Walk Keran was an experience steeped in authenticity and tranquility, making it an indelible highlight of my journey through the less-charted realms of Kashmir. Nestled within the ethereal landscapes of Keran, this homestay stands out as a sanctuary of refinement and genuine hospitality. Just a short two-minute stroll leads to the magnificent Kishanganga (Neelum) River, visible in all its splendor from the room’s windows. The proximity to the Line of Control imparted a rare sense of place; gazing upon Pakistan from the comfort of our room infused our adventure with an unmatched allure. Our accommodations were exceptionally spacious, with a room and washroom meticulously designed to offer an ambiance of openness and relaxation—a level of comfort seldom encountered in homestays. The dining area also warrants special mention, offering a panoramic vista of the valley, river, and Pakistan beyond. Each meal was elevated by the breathtaking views, transforming our dining experience into something almost meditative. The warmth and attentiveness of the staff were exemplary, ensuring our comfort at every turn. Their genuine hospitality was matched only by the dedication of the owner, a visionary figure whose depth of knowledge about the region proved enlightening. More than a proprietor, he is an advocate for sustainable tourism, empowering the local community by providing meaningful opportunities within the industry. His commitment to fostering regional pride and creating sustainable livelihoods is a truly inspiring endeavor. Perhaps what left the most lasting impression was the owner’s profound knowledge of Keran’s hidden gems, many of which remain undocumented. His insights extended well beyond the scope of conventional travel information. One revelation was particularly striking: contrary to popular belief that Nanga Parvat is visible only from Machhil Valley in Kupwara, he guided us to a vantage point just a comfortable two-hour round-trip trek from the homestay, where this awe-inspiring peak could be viewed. Such discoveries added a rich layer of depth to our journey, showcasing Keran’s secrets that elude even the most diligent travelers. The culinary experience here was an equal delight. Each dish was prepared with meticulous care, showcasing the authentic flavors of the region and leaving us savoring every bite. Celebrating my wife’s birthday here was a joy—intimate, serene, and made unforgettable by the unique ambiance. In sum, Village Walk Keran is more than a mere accommodation; it is an immersive experience that enhances one’s understanding of Kashmir. For those seeking an unfiltered, peaceful escape that transcends the ordinary, I cannot recommend it highly enough. The owner has requested for feedback or review to me...so I am sharing our experience with a brutal honesty on behalf of both of us. I have read all other reviews that have been posted by different tourists.Stay was suggested by a famous bengali Travel journalist. We booked our stay 4 months back with advance booking payment for two days stay i.e. 21-23 Sept 2024. They agreed to give us room number 04 with attached bath. They have sent us pics of the room. The price was settled as per MAP plan (breakfast dinner included). Now the facts we've faced: 1. In Keran when we visited there was no cell reception. The owner never called us while we were in Kashmir. The stay at Keran was at the end of our itinerary. He just sent some whatsapps. 2. The cars may it be a local cab from stands or highered by you for a total trip will not reach the homestay. You have to get down at the army check post and higher a cab from keran stand to reach the homestay which will charge you ₹500 for oneway drop only.The owner never mentioned this. Though we were lucky as there was not much tourist movement when we were there &my hubby shown his Govt. Official ID card to the officer there and he permitted our car to pass through. Yes we paid extra for that. The homestay is about 1.5-2 km from the check post. 3. The room was given as promised. It's well decorated, clean and big. We both liked the room. The washroom was clean also with a geyser and wash basin, though the tap of the basin was not working and we had to use the mugs to wash our faces. 4. They have given a very small electric kettle but the fun fact is electricity is a rare commodity in Keran. We had electricity only after 8p.m at night. Also there is no network. 5. There was only a boy named Jamil to attend us and no one else, no owner no other staff no reception. Jamil is a good boy who did his best but not enough to run a business with professional approach. He gave us the keys and showed us the rooms. Some times after a man came and told us he is the special cook who came all the way from Tangdhar. 6. The main event happened at night. There it was the specially cooked dinner. A large pot of pahari rice which is sufficient for 6 people (we were just two). Along with it aloo ki sabji (the timid potatoes swimming in red colored watery gravy of tomato paste and onion), somewhat cosumable. And the star attraction "The Chicken Curry". A very large bowl 80% filled with gravy of tomato and onion with just two medium pieces of chicken. Just two for two of us. We ate as per our capacity and said nothing. Jamil came to collect the cutlery and told us to lock the main door from inside of the whole guest house. It was dark downstairs with no other living person near us. There are three rooms in the ground floor with one common washroom. I checked every room locked every window and doors and the main door and came back to our room. Made a video of that for proof. There is no reception no manager no option to call anyone in case of any emergency no network no car. If the electricity goes we will be in pitch black darkness in our room. Who treats their guests like this? 7. The next day breakfast came. Two pieces of plain sliced breads and single egg omelette for each of us with one cup of tea for each. Just this. Seeing this we said nothing but did not order any lunch and ate the food we brought from home. At night they wanted to provide the same dinner but cancelled the chicken and told to replce that double egg omelettes. But still they given us single omelettes. Perhaps the special cook from Tangdhar have not learnt it. Next day breakfst was more exiting. No omlette with the breads. Only 4 pieces of bread. Jamil said there is no egg so he brought Butter for us. What a kind jesture. I asked why no egg? He said only 1 left. I told him to fry & bring it. Thats how brilliant the food situation is. Bravo! 8. The view is not so great. Far from the river but peaceful area. It's your call now. Word of advice when you reach and you do not find the owner, you are on your own.

It was a comfortable stay after a long journey. The rooms are comfortable and there’s home cooked food available. Jameel, our guide for the hike is fun. Waseem bhai, takes good care of people who come to visit Keran and make it a memorable stay. There’s no network or internet connectivity in the village, thus just sit back, relax and enjoy the view.

very nice, warm and welcoming place 💓💓 within a walkable distance to the LoC, has all the required amenities like an attached washroom that nearby places don't seem to have. the host is extremely amiable and knowledgeable, ensuring an entertaining stay.

It was a long and tedious journey from Srinagar to Keran.Lot of checking,getting permit from Police station etc..But once we reached Village walk guest house in Keran,it was absolutely a home away from home.Beutiful rooms with full woodden panels and carpet to combat cold days.We reached around 4pm and tea was served immediately.Then with our young guide from the guest house we went to the banks of Kishan Ganga.Had an exiting time watching POK at the other side.Dinner was wonderful as per our choice.Family members constantly looked after our well being.The dining area on the first floor was beautiful with a big glass window from where you can see night POK. Morning wasfantastic and breakfast was nice.Car to military camp was arranged by huest house caretaker. It was a fantastic experience in Village Walk guest house.
