Velocity Urgent Care

Made appointment before 11am for 1:30. Waited till past 3 o’clock without being seen while nurses joked around without seeing us. Also let 3 walk-ins go ahead of us. Receptionist was extremely rude and has no business in healthcare on this planet. Update: When we finally got seen, the nurse and physician we saw were polite however we just got referred to an Emergency Room visit in which was very efficient at Sentara International Emergency Services. There was little wait and we finally got the care that my wife needed who has a bad bacterial infection in her leg but much time was wasted in getting her this care. I would not recommend going to Velocity Urgent Care if you actually need care. Just go to the ER.
The lady at the front desk is extremely rude. She does not have a mask on and isn’t helpful at all. When you walk in the door she doesn’t greet you she says, “Do you have an appointment?” She was even rude to the staff in the back who came and asked her to stop taking patients. Velocity is my only choice for urgent care outside of the ER because of my insurance. I have been here a few times and the person at the front was rude. It’s really sad to watch here treat people poorly when they are only trying to get care. The Program Administrator was kind enough to reach out to me. He is doing everything he can to make things better. I appreciate the follow up and continual improvement. The Nurse Practitioner and staff were great in the back and they deserve a good rating. Thank you Lev
5/7/2023 Having a child with significant needs has,is and will always be a challenge for our family. My oldest cake in today for a severe cough and what sounded like a chest infection. We clearly needed to have a strep test and possibly a covid/flu test done. This is not an easy task for him at all. Nurse Gracie, and I can not stress the Grace enough, was INCREDIBLE! He was terrified from an unfortunate experience he had at a military facility and refused to let her even touch him. She remained calm and patient with him. It took a good amount of time and right when I was ready to throw in the towel and leave, here she comes my Queen in sparkled armor - to the rescue. He asked would he be hurt and she talked him through it even with him still crying, shaking and screaming. We were able to get this done quickly after and it was painless for him. He felt so ashamed of his fears and behavior and just fell into her arms to say sorry. He was asking why he was this way and she explained that some people really are afraid and it's nothing to be ashamed of. Then Miss Rachel assured him how brave he was and talked him through his treatment plan she was so kind and sweet with my son. He really is so hard to treat because his fears take over and most appointments end with me wrangling him to the car with nothing being figured out. We left today completely satisfied with answers and I really appreciate your staff. Every time I come here it's top shelf service. I, myself and my children are treated with dignity, compassion and understanding. I always tell our service members and their families to come to this specific location🥰 Thanks for helping my boy today!
Please avoid this place at all costs. The staff and company does not care for the quality of their services. I had an appointment at 6 PM. I got there 10 minutes before and checked in at the front office was told to sit down and they would be with me shortly. I was there for almost two hours and only 20 minutes before they closed they asked the man next to me and myself who we were. When I told him I had an appointment at 6 PM they were completely at loss but asked me to stay so they would still see me. Meanwhile, I had a breast-feeding, screaming baby back at home, waiting for me as well as a toddler who is way past his bedtime. I checked in again and waited as I heard the staff laugh, sing and complain when they asked who was the patient still in room 2. Once the nurse finally came to the room, she did not introduced herself but instead interrupted me, as I was explaining what happened to me to start yelling at me for making her late. I told her to not talk to me this way, and sat back down after I almost walked away. But she continued to yell at me, and get in my face . I had to walk away for my safety before things escalated as no other staff was doing anything about this . The next morning I called the company to which they stated they were very sorry, told me they would give me her name so I could put in a formal nurse complain after my own nurse friends advices me to do so as any healthcare worker should be held liable for such an action . Not only did I never get a call back from the company but when I did call back they suggested that I go there and personally ask this person for her name to file the complain. I’ve been asking around and a lot of healthcare workers left this company because of the way things are run .
I’m in an urgent care desert so I had to drive 20 minutes just to get here and I don’t think I’ll be back. You check in and are given a time HOURS from the time you walk in, yet when you do the check in process on the phone browser you suddenly move up in line? The only reason this isn’t getting a lower score is because when I did get called back everything went well. The PA I had was nice, apologetic when he had to do a throat swab for strep and got me out pretty quick. This is the reason for the low score. I discovered after the fact that he prescribed me giant pills when I had a swollen throat that made it hard to swallow anything. I have a really bad gag reflex so it makes taking this antibiotic hard. I tried calling to get a different script written or something done so I can take my medication to feel better and I get put in this menu loop. No one picks up the phone!!! I just want to feel better and no one is there so it makes me feel very alone.
