I love how Wayne takes time to get to know you and helps you build a good foundation, so that when you start with strength training you know how to do it right.

Joining Train to Perform and working with Wayne Hawkins has been a game changer for me. Wayne is not only an excellent trainer—he’s a true coach. He takes the time to teach and explain the foundations of fitness, nutrition, proper movement, and flexibility in a way that builds both confidence and capability. His professionalism is unmatched, and his consistently positive attitude makes even the toughest workouts feel empowering. I appreciate how he encourages me to challenge myself, trust my body, and commit to the process. I’ve grown so much—not just physically, but mentally—thanks to his guidance and support. I highly recommend Wayne and the Train to Perform experience to anyone serious about leveling up their fitness journey!
Wayne is the most dedicated trainer I’ve ever met and the care he shows for his clients is unmatched.
I’m a woman in my 40s who has spent my entire adult life in and out of gyms, working with various trainers, and trying just about every weight loss trend out there. But after working with Wayne at Train to Perform for the past year, I can confidently say I’m in the best shape of my entire life. Not only have I dropped multiple dress sizes and lost over 15 pounds, but I’ve built strength and tone I’ve never had before. I actually look like I work out now. More importantly, my joints have never felt better. I’ve always struggled with joint pain that limited my ability to push myself—Wayne built a custom program that not only worked around those limitations but actually improved them. I train with Wayne four times a week, fitting it into a packed schedule running a business and raising a family. He makes it work—and he makes it count. If you’re serious about your fitness journey and looking for someone to take you to that next level with a truly personalized approach, stop looking. Go train with Wayne. Period.
Wayne is an amazing trainer as well as an amazing person in general!! I started strength training after an injury and now I’m taking regular classes with everyone multiple times a week. He is always looking out for your healing and wellbeing, checking in with you throughout each move to see if anything feels off. I can’t recommend it enough. Do yourself a favor and invest in your health asap!!🙏🙏
Wayne is my hero! my life is changed for the better since I started training with him.
Before working with Wayne, I had limited experience doing strength training. When I last tried at home, I injured myself. Working with Wayne and the wonderful community has built has been life changing. I am doing things I never thought I’d be able to, making progress week by week and getting stronger. Wayne cares about us and this is clear in his approach, how he will tailor workouts to each person, takes the time to get to know us and has created such a vibrant community. I highly recommend Train to Perform. Not only will you not regret it, but you just might meet a version of yourself that had been elusive.
Wayne is easily the most knowledgeable, dedicated, and caring trainer I’ve ever met or worked with. His awareness of my needs and the things I’m most struggling with is nearly telepathic, he tells me about my knee pain before I even feel it and adjusts my form so I can get the work in without getting injured. If you’re looking for a way to become the healthiest you can be, train to perform is the answer. …and that’s just Wayne himself. He’s also built a community of people from all walks of life and at all experience levels that will help you stay with it and enjoy yourself through the hard work it takes to improve. Give it a shot, thank me later.
I love working out with Wayne! I spent a lot of time in the past trying to exercise on my own watching YouTube videos, but I couldn’t stay consistent as I was constantly doubting whether I was doing them right. Train To Perform has helped me tremendously in building structure, knowledge, and consistency. Signing up for the small group class is one of the best decisions I made since moving to STL this past year. It feels like a community of its own, and Wayne really helps you feel at home providing a space for everyone to get to know each other while also identifying and accommodating everyone’s individual needs. He’s a great instructor who educates and empowers you. He’s quick to correct you but I never feel ashamed of making mistakes. He ensures you have a strong foundation before moving on to the next level, which I think is so valuable. And I feel supported and encouraged knowing there are people on a similar journey! Can’t wait to continue and see my progress unfold.
Every class session with Wayne is both educational and a serious workout! Each day the workout is different- his circuits/repetitions are never the same but focus on the correct way to move and correct the way to use equipment and those areas - class sizes maybe 1 to 6 attendees. Classes are always different from the previous day and great conversation during rest periods. Always look forward to my next session @ Train to Perform!
I love the workout group classes at this gym! Wayne is am incredible trainer with a lot of knowledge. I appreciate how he teaches and trains us. He also pays a lot of attention on warm-ups, stretching, any injuries/pain one may be experiencing. I'd highly recommend you join!
The very best investment I make every month is training at T2P with Wayne. He’s INCREDIBLE. I know that all I have to do is show up on time and the rest takes care of itself. It’s a great workout. Different every time so it never gets boring. And Wayne is great about checking in on how you’re doing, pushing you to (safely!) give it your all, and making it fun and motivating. So grateful to have found this gym!
Wayne is an amazing trainer, With so much knowledge and the latest tech on what is effective for strength training. He’s also so tuned to every person‘s ability level, injuries, etc. So you are getting personal training in a group setting At an affordable price point. And the people in the classes are really nice. But the main thing is that Wayne is an awesome trainer and super motivating and a super nice person
Love training with Wayne! He is extremely responsive and understanding. Overall amazing experience and great people to work out with.
Wayne is a remarkable person & trainer. I’m home from NYC taking care of my Mother. My sister is a client and has always raved about her experience. I joined her for an early AM boxing group session. Wayne was warm, inviting and attentive throughout my time in the gym. I’ve always wanted to try boxing. Wayne’s class was the perfect introduction for me. He gave me a great overview of the punches and numbers we’d use throughout the session. He paid attention to me and other participants throughout & offered adjustments as needed. I enjoyed the session and plan to attend future sessions when I’m back in town.
Great intimate atmosphere to train. The trainer clearly communicates information about exercise routines and builds trust and positive relationships the clients. The trainer is passionate about getting you results.
Where do I start?!?! Train to Perform is thee BEST personal training experience I've ever had. Wayne's spirit and energy go unmatched. His program is thorough and there is a reason for every movement he trains you to do. The amount of knowledge I've learned since training with him has boosted my confidence when I go in any gym. I know exactly how to train for the first time in my life after years of working out. I'm no longer lost when I walk in a gym feeling like I don't know what to do. Now I know I'm doing my movements in great form to prevent injury and to get the most out of each movement! I've tried other trainers and they just weren't compatible with my training needs. I wanted a trainer who really cares about your success, who's motivating/encouraging and I got it with Train to Perform Fitness with Wayne.
TL,DR: Personal training with an expert and sincere trainer at an unbeatable price. Overall structure & client relations: Train to perform is an excellent personal trainer setting at a much more reasonable price. Wayne is immensely knowledgeable and passionate about educating while training. For the scientists and doctors among you, there is none of the fad or misinformation-based, quick-solution approach, or non-sense logic about how physiology works, which may have irked you at other gyms or with other trainers. He makes sincere efforts to motivate you, create a plan for you to reach your goals and to share credible information about achieving and maintaining fitness. 1. He has a methodical and adaptable approach to training where people of every age (young teens to 80-year-old adults) can train and still feel satisfied with the outcomes. 2. He has several long-term clients who have been coming to him for over a decade. 3. You have the option of one-on-one training as well as training with your partner in a couples’ class or in a group of 4 ppl, with multiple fee structures for every need. 4. You schedule and check in to classes on an app where you can also see your history of all classes from the beginning. 5. Wayne is also quite accessible via texts and answers questions you may come up with later in the day about the session/schedule/exercise/nutrition, etc. 6. He also regularly checks in on you about your experience after the session and about your nutrition and sleep. 7. There is also a sense of community in the class and across groups. It makes you want to go for the class and not miss any sessions. Training approach: 1. Wayne starts you with an assessment of your current mobility and strength before bringing you to a foundations class. You learn the technique and form for each exercise in the foundations class, avoiding a steep learning curve while strength training and also allowing your body to adapt to new exercises. 2. After consistent attendance and demonstrated ability to perform, you graduate to the strength training class. Technique and safety are still the top priority in strength training class. 3. No matter which class you are in, you always start with a full body warm up and end with stretching. 4. Even in a 4-person group, Wayne is able to pay adequate attention to every individual’s form and provide corrective feedback. For a trained dancer like me, this attention to detail in technique is one of Wayne’s most striking qualities. 5. He brings in a lot of variety in exercises that target the same area and gives stepwise instructions for each exercise every time, also informing you of the muscle groups being targeted. 6. Despite the different exercises in every class, he astutely tracks your progress such that your muscle strength continues to build and the cognitive burden of tracking your own progress is negligible. 7. He seems to have multiple variations of almost every exercise, catered to different strength-levels, prior injury and rehabilitation-status, age/weight categories etc. Types of classes: 1. There are 3 types of classes – Foundations strength training; Stick Mobility and Boxing/Conditioning, each with a distinct flavor. 2. The Stick Mobility class is for increasing mobility and flexibility in muscles and joints. This is one of my most favorite sessions. The vibe of this class is serene and slow. 3. The Boxing class is an intense one; the focus is on cardiovascular conditioning while keeping an eye on proper form. He teaches you several techniques that are self-defense oriented. Wayne’s sincerity and drive transfers to your workout, making each session physically and mentally fulfilling.
I’ve been strength training since 2000 and have utilized several trainers during that time. Wayne Hawkins is - without question - the single best trainer I’ve ever encountered. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, dedicated to his clients, and designs workouts to specifically address my goals. He motivates me to work hard during my workouts, discusses and incorporates “whole health” issues (such as nutrition & sleep) into our discussions, and has helped me become stronger and more fit as a result of his guidance. He is simply THE BEST at what he does!
My wife has consistently worked out at Train To Perform (TTP), and I've joined her occasionally—both in the gym and at TTP gatherings. Prior to TTP, she never felt like she found a gym where she truly belonged and it's so clear that she's right at home here. Mentally and physically, her hard work every week has paid off thanks to Wayne and her gymmates (I know everyone's name even if I haven't met everyone in-person yet). I'd highly recommend TTP to anyone looking for a friendly, communal gym with folks from all walks of life and diverse fitness goals.
