The Soho Center for Mental Health Counseling

I visited Soho Center back in September. And am finally calmed down to write this. Because after 2 times of visits, I can only feel more traumatized. The therapist, Yen Liao, Re-schedule/cancel with me 3 times with variety of reasons. The last time she cancel it was even by the receptionist, and he told me to change therapist. I felt abandoned and not being taken care of. Generally speaking, these traumatized events at Soho Center made me feel stronger than the therapy session itself. I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to build deep connection with a long term therapist.

Cannot speak to the quality of their therapy because we couldn't get past their shady billing practices. We were informed for sessions with more than one person, ie family/couples therapy, they are required to bill each of us (and our insurances) separately. In fact they are required not to. If we went out of pocket, our joint session with an unlicensed associate therapist—whose rate is $160 a session—would cost $300 because it is billed as two "discounted" $150 individual sessions. No.

I’ve been a patient of Soho Center for over 3 years . Center and the therapist are amazing. Never any issue and they genuinely take pride in the center and with their patients. 3 years later and I’m in such a good place. Would recommend Soho Center to all who need some help!

I was thrilled to find a practice that accepted my insurance, but beware: the only clinicians accepting new clients are “associate” psychotherapists, which sometimes means they have not yet even finished a Masters Degree. Staff will not be upfront about this and I think the term “associate” is misleading - “intern” would be more appropriate. Even after I stated in writing that I only wanted to see a senior psychotherapist and was happy to wait until one became available, I was matched instead with another associate who just happened to be a bit older. She was clearly inexperienced and the whole thing was a massive waste of my time. I know new clinicians need opportunities to gain experience, but the practice needs to be more upfront about the lack of experience the majority of their therapists actually have.
