Sandy Thain Car Sales Ltd

On arrival it was noticeable that the cars were well presented. We were allowed to look around for a short while before Jerry, who dealt with us, came across to offer to help. We found him to be friendly, not at all pushy, answered any questions knowledgably and did what he promised. Although he must deal with lots of customers on a daily basis he remembered us straight away when we went to collect the car we'd bought a few days before. The car we had bought was spotless inside and out and all maintenance promised had been carried out. It came with a new MOT and a year's warranty included in the sale. All in all I recommend that you go along and have a look. Don't expect to get much movement on the price though, they seem to be pretty competitive from the start!

Great car sales garage to deal with, I dealt with Mike and Ian and both were great and very professional and friendly, no pushy car salesmen here. This is the second time I have dealt with Sandy Thain car sales and cannot recommend them enough. From sale to after service there customer commitment is second to none. 10/10

Great service. We recently part exchanged and we are delighted with the car we purchased. All of the cars for sale are really tidy. The one we purchased looks virtually brand new inside and out. There are no pushy sales or gimmicks. We got a fair price for our trade in. Jerry was great, everything went as arranged and we would recommend Sandy Thain for both the standard of service and the quality of the vehicles for sale.

From entering the showroom and being greeted by Jerry in a very friendly & professional manner I knew I was buying my car . Had a test drive and loved it . When I picked it up it was gleaming and had a quick lesson on all the controls (all masked up of course) . I contacted salesman Jerry 2 weeks ago with the criteria of what i wanted. Jerry sent me notification of a car that had just come in. We viewed the vehicle and decided to purchase. Collected 5 days later after the garage put 1 years mot, service and valet. Delighted with the customer service i received. Early days yet but the car appears to be working well. Will definitely come back to ST for the next car. Appreciate the service received.

Have bought cars from Sandy Thain over the years without problem until now, all trust flew out the window. Shall never use them again. Traded in Ford Focus for 68 reg Vauxhall Astra on 25th May. Whilst with salesman Iain, he showed me inside the boot and indicated where the tyre inflation kit was stored but did not declare that the battery was stored in the boot under the boot liner. Had he said "By the way the battery is in the boot" The purchase would not have gone through. On my finding this out, I emailed Iain requesting my old car back and refund to which he failed to respond. Took the matter up with Consumer Advice / Trading Standards. Followed procedure and sent letter stating consumer legislation and requested redress. Received letter by way of response which twisted the facts and putting the blame on me. Second letter sent asking if they would enter an ADR, no response. Trading Standards cannot help getting refund etc.They advised me to escalate my complaint to SMTA as Sandy Thain being a member, which I duly did. Iain went on to refuse to correspond further on this matter. Another problem came to light, regarding the state of the tyres. Sandy Thain maintain that the tyres were removed and checked during the service and no fault found on 25th ,May and also on the 1st June on the Pre Delivery Inspection Report. Sent email to to Sandy Thain stating that I was going to have the tyres inspected independently. The next day I had the tyres checked at Kwik-Fit who are also an MOT centre. I viewed the whole process and witnessed the extent of the damage. All tyres perished, divot on outer wall of one tyre and flat spot accoss tread. Asked question if vehicle would pass MOT and was told no. As expected had no option but to change them all at a cost of £424.71 Sent invoice which included a statement relating to the tyre damage to Sandy Thain for repayment to me. Mike replied by email stating that I did not give them the opportunity to inspect them so therefore will not refund me. They had two occasions to inspect the tyres beforehand but failed to report damage. I took it on trust that Sandy Thain had done the tyre check properly. I didn't have the luxury of doing a tyre check whilst vehicle on the ground on their car park.This issue included in complaint to SMTA Conciliation Committee. Case heard on 18th August and received in writing two different results. The second being that they could not reach a decision. SMTA on their webpage state that they "encourage, promote and protect" they certainly protect their members and appear to disregard the consumers concerns even though the evidence submitted decimated that of Sandy Thain. Just as well the Conciliation Committee's is non binding. Also asked Iain if I could drive the vehicle, he stated only in the car park. I thought this was because of Covid regulations. After collecting my car on the 2nd June, I noticed vehicles on the road displaying trade plates. Checked internet and found that test drives were permissable as of 5th April, almost two months previous. Can't conduct test drive in car park. Sorry to say that Sandy Thain has lost a long standing customer.The below response from Sandy Thain in my opinion is an excuse to save face and ignoring the facts presented. The invitation to discuss concerns came too late on 6th August when my complaint was lodged with the SMTA in July. On 25th May before taking possession of the vehicle I had a part vehicle check done which I was entitled to do and reported my findings to Sandy Thain by email. The response in part I received was "Remember who you are dealing with" which I found an offensive comment. Luckily the check came back clear. Just to update. Just after writing this review I was sent an email instructing the staff not to accept phone calls from me nor to deal with me.

Visited Sandy Thains with my family and can't praise everyone, Jerry, especially and the other gent, whose name escapes me at the moment, for their warm welcome and laid back approach. Liked a vehicle I saw, and within a few days it was mine. Minimum fuss, they did all the work, and I came home with a brand new car. Would definitely recommend anyone who is thinking about buying a second hand motor to visit Sandy Thains. Wide choice for all budgets. Thanks Jerry and the team for all your help.
