Epi Bakehouse

Epi Bakehouse is a cozy cafe. I got the iced vanilla latte but felt the coffee wasn't strong enough and it was too much on the watery side. Next time I'll try the americano instead. The staff are friendly!

EPI Bakehouse (I believe it was called EPI Breads a long time ago) is a bakery with some fancy sandwiches, pastries, and desserts. We got a very nicely made apple pie. I got the roast turkey sandwich, which was delicious. It was a very tasty sandwich filled with turkey, nice leafy veggies, and pesto. The bread was a fragrant soft bread with grains. My mouth got uncomfortably dry while eating the sandwich. The apple pie was filled to the brim with apples, and the crust was flaky and tasted of high quality. I thought the apples were very sweet, but not too much.

Staff are slow and act like you are bugging them. They run out to early. It has changed hands. You always can tell. Gwen

I've shopped here several time in past couple of years and though the food is OK but expensive for what you get, the real problem is the terrible service. They employ relatively young and inattentive servers. I was there today with a handful of frozen foods and placed them next to one of the two cashiers. But the two young ladies that were there ignored me and continued to serve customers who came in after me who barked out orders for items without waiting their turn. This has happened to me there before and I will never return to this dump again. I expressed my displeasure to the lady who eventually got my money but she said nothing other than have a good day. So avoid this place if you want any sort of decent customer service. IT IS TERRIBLE.

At a friends house we had Epi's carrot cake and it was delicious. So, I decided to buy one for the ladies in our house on International Women's Day. This carrot cake has to be the best in all of Toronto, if not Canada. The cake is moist and full of flavour. The cream cheese topping is incredible. The topping reminds me of Red Velvet Cakes before the bakeries decided to reduce costs and use cream and sugar as a substitute. Do yourself a favour, make yourself a hero to family and friends. Buy an Epi carrot cake.

HORRIBLE experience. Nov 21, walked in with Mask Exempt button on and immediately was greeted by hostile employee. Told me she "afraid," if me. I asked her why since the store was empty, she is wearing a mask and behind a plastic shield. Started screaming at me and yelling GET OUT and waving violently for me to leave. Banned me from the shop. I asked her if she was the owner or manager but would not reply.

I live in the neighbourhood over 20 years and this morning was my first visit to Epi Breads. The quality of pastries (raisin danish, my favourite) were equivalent to European pastries. Definitely recommend you try their bake goods and be the judge for yourself.

the flourless chocolate walnut cookie that we purchased yesterday was amazing. try it now. i logged onto yelp after years of inactivity just to write this review. we're not gluten free but loved it nonetheless!!!

Absolutely great tarts! The butter tarts is my favorite along with the berry tart. The crust is very buttery, light and crisp. Very flavorful! I highly recommend

What's not to love - all their products are free from preservatives, their croissants are flaky and delicious, and their Brie and caramelized (yes, CARAMELIZED) pear sandwich is oh so gooey and comes with a side salad. The sandwich looked pretty thin but I was pleased to find I was satisfyingly full after just over half the sandwich. They also make ready-made meals like pasta with meat sauce, chicken stew and chicken soup. When I was there, I just could not help but buy a whole loaf of sourdough which they sliced for me. And because I had some time to kill, I sat there and enjoyed my sandwich and coffee at a little table inside. So much yum, and even though the place was busy, the staff was very nice. I am definitely going back there.

I was served by Jane this morning. I was rushing to work. She slied my bread and then decided to chat with her coworker, then she aproached me like she didnt care. Of course she didnt care. Her attitude is horrible. No appologies, no sence of urgency and zero customer service. The other day i bought a carrot cake. I got " the end " of the cake although there were several more slices left That was not the first time it happened so i asked why i got the " end" of the cake. ( those slices are usually more dry). Without appologies she said " next time you think you will get the " end" slice let us know so we will get you one from the middle " Unbelivable !!!!

I came and picked up a few croissants to go and the service was very welcoming. The croissants are buttery and flaky. It was very fresh and delicious. I was happy with the croissants and I may return to try other items!

Great... it is quite expensive, but you pay for the quality. The only reason that it is not five stars is that there is always a preventable wait on weekend mornings: they are always understaffed. Often other clients leave the line as it just takes too long.

Love your cheese and chive scones, easy to bake at home. Chocolate almond scones yummy yummy with fresh coffee, good same day. Suggestion: casher table can be renovated to be larger, so customer does not need to wait in line for so long. You are a plus to provide us with a clean washroom, very handy. I vote to come here each sunday morning over dim sum line ups.

Just a really solid neighbourhood bakery. I try to get hear about once a week. The stand outs are the cheddar boule and brioche. A wide variety of dessert items as well that tend to be very good, especially the rhubarb tart. I've never had any customer service issues like some other people.

I have never wrote a negative comment before and I hope I will never have to again, but I just cannot hold it back. I bought a couple of goodies today around 12 noon, looked good, smelled good, yummy. Right? I don't know. Unfortunately I could not taste them because I noticed the girl's (who served me) apron. OMG!!! It was supposed to be white, I am sure it was some time ago, but it was sooo dirty, I have never seen apron this disgusting behind the sale counter. Pleeeease!!!!!! I have no words to give any excuse for this. I even told the girl that she should change her apron. She just made a fanny face, case closed. Not to mention that the girl handled the money of the costumer before me and right after she touched my bread with her bare hand. (!?!?!?!) I paid for my stuff because I had my bread sliced, but I could not eat a bite out of it. I had to threw it away. I don't wish this disgusting experience to anyone.

My favorite thing they used to make is the small individual apple pies. Sadly they didn't have them last year. They make some great butter tarts and they're so large, one could feed a family of four. I'm slightly exaggerating. The flourless cake has a bitter flavor so is not good for someone who wants a sweet treat. The last thing I tried was a peanut butter cookie, which was the worst peanut butter cookie I've ever tasted. It was so bland, you could barely taste the peanut butter. That would be the only criticism I would have. Otherwise, order ahead if you're buying something during the holidays before they sell out.

All the breads that I tried are all amazing; they are all crunchy outside and the taste is also great. I tried their carrot cake this week and it was simply the best one I have ever eaten...

I like Epi Breads, It's not trying to be anything it's not, it's not hip and modern, the displays are not bright and minimalistic. It's like an old school bakery that has everything from breads, cupcakes, tarts, pies, sandwiches, and even frozen prepared foods; it's the neighborhood spot for a sweet treat or a stop during your run for errands. Everything at Epi Breads is done right; bread is baked fresh every morning, the croissants are crispy and soft on the inside, the pies are filled to the brim with fruits, the prepared foods are a slice of true comfort food and are packed with meats and veggies. My personal favourites are the croissants (I would say one of the best in the city), the apple pie, any of the frozen savoury pies (chicken, steak, turkey), brie and pear sandwich is also a great lunch option. Like some other reviewers stated, the service is lack luster which is why I have the 4-stars and not 5. But truthfully speaking the food sells itself and you won't regret a stop to Epi Breads.
